    Noëlle Byer

    Audio Preservation Engineer

Meet Noëlle Byer, a reformed classical musician turned dedicated archivist. Before co-founding JNB Sound Works, Noëlle led the Transfer Department at Reel to Reel Haven and worked as a transfer engineer with the New York Public Library’s archival team. Their career has focused on making analog audio accessible to the public.

Noëlle discovered their passion for audio preservation while studying in McGill University’s Sound Recording program, where they were first introduced to open reel tape and 78s. From that point on, they never looked back.

At the New York Public Library, Noëlle worked closely with the city’s rich sonic history, handling everything from vintage jazz recordings to decades-old radio broadcasts. Through Reel to Reel Haven, they led small-scale preservation projects, helping individuals restore and digitize their personal audio collections.

Noëlle continues to serve in leadership roles on the Association of Recorded Sound Collectors’ Membership and Technical Committees, remaining actively involved in the latest developments in archival practice.

Whether rescuing an old mixtape or transforming a worn family recording into a lasting keepsake, Noëlle brings care, curiosity, and craftsmanship to every piece of audio history they help preserve.
